Walgreens Launches New and Improved Prescription Savings Club as Approximately 1 in 4 U.S. Adults Lack Adequate Prescription Drug Coverage

DEERFIELD, Ill., May 15, 2012 - Approximately one in four U.S. adults lacks adequate prescription drug coverage1, and with both cost savings and access to health care top of mind for many Americans, Walgreens (NYSE, NASDAQ: WAG) has introduced a new and improved Prescription Savings Club program - providing members greater value and covering a more comprehensive range of medications than any similar offering by any major drugstore chain in the marketplace today. The program is part of the company’s Well at Walgreens strategy to make Walgreens America’s first choice for health and daily living.

Charles R. “Cork” Walgreen III, the man who brought the company back to its pharmacy roots and kicked off its climb to 7,000 stores, retired from the company's board of directors January 13, 2010, after more than 57 continuous years of service to the company his grandfather founded. A Warehouse of Wonders

Thanks to special hiring efforts made at Walgreens distribution center in Anderson, S.C., about 40 percent of the employees hired there have either a physical or cognitive disability. A similar effort to hire people with disabilities was made at the Walgreens distribution center in Windsor, Conn., which opened in 2008. Watch the video of employee stories from Anderson.

AARP/Walgreens Wellness Tour

The AARP/Walgreens Wellness Tour will provide more than $60 million in free health screenings and services. The program features nine customized traveling education and health-screening vehicles that will visit more than 3,000 communities throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Watch the video.
